How to Apply

EarthSystem5 applications are accepted each spring term from students approaching their final year of undergraduate study. A completed application includes the following components:

1. Contact Honors.College@oregonstate.edu to initiate application

2. A copy of the Honors Thesis Proposal, signed by the faculty mentor

3. A Candidate Statement addressing:

• Terms of expected degree completion (HBS and MS),

• Academic goals,

• Career goals,

• Expected role of EarthSystem5 in supporting achievement of academic and career goals;

4. A Mentor Statement addressing:

• Suitability of candidate’s Honors thesis project for a Masters thesis,

• Mentor’s commitment to guide the project through completion of MS,

• Availability of GRA/GTA or other additional support to supplement PLUS Fellowship stipend while the applicant is in advanced degree program(s) at OSU.

Selection Criteria

1. Good standing as an Honors College major (university GPA of at least 3.25);

2. Honors thesis proposal based on research in COAS or Geosciences, with the potential to be expanded to a M.S. thesis project;

3. Faculty mentor commitment to guide and fund the research from REU, through Honors thesis, and to completion of the M.S. degree;

4. Completion of the Honors Baccalaureate is required prior to beginning the M.S. program.
