Hello! My name is Alec Westbrook, and I am currently a third-year Chemical Engineering student minoring in both Business & Entrepreneurship and Chemistry.

After applying to many colleges throughout California, I ultimately decided to come to Oregon State because of the wonderful opportunities both the College of Engineering and the University Honors College have to offer. Although the move from California to Oregon seemed a little daunting when deciding on college, after visiting campus and the Honors College, I felt right at home. One of the main things that I wanted to avoid was simply becoming a number within a large university, and the Honors College was an outlet that allowed me to be a unique individual within a smaller, tight-knit community.

Since coming to Oregon State and the UHC, I have had the good fortune of participating in HC events such as organized trips, discussing great reads through faculty-led book clubs, being involved in unique special topic classes, and much more. Along with these, through both the UHC and the College of Engineering, I have been selected for the MECOP internship program, where students have the opportunity to participate in two 6 month internships before graduating. This is an experience that I am very grateful for, and am greatly looking forward to embarking out on this spring!

In my free time, I love to play Intramural Sports and attend as many Beaver games as I can, explore fun outdoor activities around Corvallis, and hang out with friends! Ultimately, I have loved every second of my time here, but for anyone reading this that is applying college, I strongly encourage you to find a place that feels like home. If you have any questions about student life, or any of the academic programs I’m involved in, please feel free to contact me!
