Pre-Veterinary Scholars Program

The Pre-Veterinary Scholars Program is a collaboration between the University Honors College (UHC) and the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). This program is designed for incoming UHC students who have strong academic abilities and an interest in pursuing veterinary medicine as a career. Pre-Veterinary Scholars will obtain experience, knowledge, and mentorship that will help solidify their career goals and strengthen their application to a professional veterinary program.

Applicant Eligibility and Procedures

Students will be invited to apply to the Pre-Veterinary Scholars Program by the University Honors College after admission to the UHC.

 Interested students should:

  • Apply to OSU
  • Apply to the University Honors College
  • On the UHC application indicate interest in veterinary medicine when prompted
  • If admitted to the UHC, eligible students will be invited to write an additional essay that will specifically address interest, experiences, and expectations in the field of veterinary medicine.

Program Structure

Students admitted to the Program will be assigned a faculty mentor from the CVM who will be responsible for overseeing the student’s progress. It is expected that the participants Honors thesis will be related to some facet of the veterinary profession. Students will participate in research and observe clinical medicine during the academic year and summer and will be encouraged to participate in CVM activities including:

  • Clinical and research talks
  • Senior paper presentations
  • Rounds offered by student chapters of professional veterinary organizations
  • The Pre-Vet volunteer program
  • Research Day at the CVM
  • Educational programs for children and communities
