Retention Requirements

All University Honors College students must maintain a 3.25 cumulative OSU GPA and make progress toward fulfilling the requirements of the UHC and their disciplinary major. All UHC student grades will be audited each term. Those at risk of falling below the threshold will be notified in writing and are required to meet with a UHC Academic Advisor.

Probation

UHC students falling below the specified 3.25 cumulative GPA must:

  1. Meet with a UHC Academic Advisor to discuss their academic schedule and a plan for improvement
  2. Receive a term GPA (minimum of 12 credits) above the threshold in the following term
  3. Obtain a cumulative GPA above the 3.25 threshold at the end of two terms of course work subsequent to the term in which they fell below

If the cumulative GPA remains below the threshold, the student will no longer retain UHC status. Students have the right to appeal their circumstances to a UHC Advisor in writing and/or in person.

Withdrawing from the UHC

We understand that your career goals, academic interests, and life circumstances shift throughout your undergraduate career.

If you wish to withdraw from University Honors College (UHC), please contact us directly. The process is simple, prompt, and carries no penalty.

Please fill out the web form provided here or contact a UHC academic advisor and request the withdrawal. Once you have notified the UHC, a staff member will send the curriculum change request to the Registrar’s Office.

Note: The only way to be officially removed from the University Honors College is to contact the UHC directly. If Honors is removed without authorization, your Honors standing will be reinstated and you will continue to be charged the differential tuition fee.

Reentry

Students may apply for readmission when their cumulative OSU GPA is above the 3.25 threshold. Information on reinstatement is available from a UHC Academic Advisor.
