1.  Spring Term Movie Night – Tuesday, April 13

On Tuesday, April 13th, the University Honors College and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars will be hosting a Spring Term Movie Night, featuring the film The Perfect Score. The film showing will begin at 8pm in the SLUG 2. The movie showing is free of charge. Take some time off studying on Tuesday to enjoy a great movie!


2. Thesis Workshop: What is a thesis? – Wednesday, April 14

This will be a workshop for those who are just beginning to think about the UHC thesis.  Learn about what the UHC thesis entails, the traditional process, and get your specific questions answered.  Stop by STAG 222 on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 from 5-6pm. We will address questions for those who are beginning to think about the thesis, for those who are just beginning to brainstorm ideas, and for those who are wondering how to begin the research process. Come prepared to ask questions, and to develop a reasonable and effective working schedule for your thesis project. See you at 5pm on Wednesday in STAG 222.


3. UHC Women's Symposium – Thursday, April 15

The UHC Women's Symposium is on Thursday, April 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the MU Journey Room.  The topic is "Pioneers of Science: Women Explorers". Professors from Biology, Philosophy, and Mathematics will be speaking about their challenges and success as women in science fields. Refreshments provided! 


4.  Mark Your Calendar: UHC Mom's Weekend Brunch and Talent Show - Saturday, May 1

The University Honors College invites you and your family to the Annual UHC Mom's Weekend Brunch and Talent Show on Saturday, May 1 from 10am to 12pm at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center (across from Reser Stadium). Parking is available in the surrounding residence hall lots and in the Reser parking lot.  We hope that you and your family will join us to enjoy the brunch and the talent show.




5. UHC Scholarships for Returning Students: Deadline May 1
Current UHC students who will be enrolled in the UHC during the 2010-2011 academic year can apply to receive a UHC Scholarship. The application deadline is May 1. The UHC expects to make about twenty awards of $1000 each, with award announcements before the end of spring term. Academic merit is a criterion for all awards. 6. Research Assistant needed in Clinical Psych Lab

Dr. David Kerr, an assistant professor in (clinical) psychology is seeking a volunteer research assistant to work in his lab for 8 hours/week. This would be an ideal position for a sophomore/junior-level honors college student (preferably a psych major), as s/he could get into a research area and get to know a faculty member well in advance of the development of an honors thesis. This position could also be used to earn 401 research credit.  Interested students should look at Dr. Kerr’s website (http://oregonstate.edu/cla/psychology/kerr), and email him a resume and brief statement of interest including short/long terms goals.


7.  AAUW Scholarship for Women 25 and older

Corvallis AAUW is offering scholarships to two deserving women who reside in Linn or Benton County, and are 25 years of age or older. The scholarships will be for the 2010-2011 academic year. A $750 scholarship will offered to a woman attending Linn Benton Community College seeking a certificate or degree, and a $1,000 scholarship to a woman attending Oregon State University seeking an undergraduate degree. 8. Holocaust Memorial Week

As part of an annual effort to remember our common humanity and to combat genocide around the world, OSU will observe Holocaust Memorial Week April 12-15. Events are typically at 7:30 in the LaSells Stewart Center, with an additional lecture Monday, April 12 at 4 PM. The culminating event of the week is a Survivor Talk to be given by Eline Hoekstra Dresden, who will speak to the effects of surviving a concentration throughout her life. 9. International Women's Lunch Bunch

Back by popular demand! Tari from Zimbabwe will be presenting about the status of women in her country, as well as answering questions.

11. Supplemental Instruction Program Assistant position in the Academic Success Center

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program supports student learning by providing facilitated group study to students enrolled in mathematics courses at OSU. This student employee position has been established to provide support to the SI Coordinator by providing administrative assistance. Duties include scheduling study tables; attending weekly training meetings; keeping attendance records; corresponding with students and SI Leaders; copying; filing; and other duties as assigned.


Preferred job qualifications: strong organization skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and good customer service skills


Required job qualifications: must have completed two terms at OSU upon applying for the position, and have a GPA of at least 3.0


This position will begin during spring term and continue through the academic year until June 11, 2010.  Applicants must expect to return to OSU for the 2010-2011 academic year to resume this position on September 15, 2010, at 10 hours per week, through June 10, 2011. Salary: $8.95 per hour
