English
Hello! My name is Atari Gauthier (they/them/theirs), and I am from Hood River, Oregon. I am currently a fourth-year English student within the College of Liberal Arts, and I’m pursuing a minor in music performance. My goal is to get my Bachelor of Arts in English, and then proceed onto graduate school for middle-grade education.
When I was applying for college during my senior year of high school, I knew that I wanted to stay within Oregon. I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest my whole life, and the hills and valleys are ingrained into my bones. Oregon State University was one of my top schools, and there was really no contest. The reasonable price point, the close-knit community, and the wonderful location in a sleepy town hit every single point I was looking for. The Honors College sealed the deal — the smaller class sizes and incredibly engaged professors were an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
A fun fact about me: in my time at Oregon State, I’ve changed majors three times, for a total of four majors across three different colleges within Oregon State. I’m a perfect example of how flexible Oregon State is when it comes to allowing students time to figure out where they want to settle, and I cannot thank Oregon State enough for giving me the space to explore my passions.
Apart from my schoolwork and job, I spend time playing the guitar, writing terrible poetry, hiking or playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends. I’m an excellent resource regarding the music department here at Oregon State, plus any questions about life in the residence halls, on-campus jobs or being LGBTQ+ at OSU (or if you just want to chat about musical theater). Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
