Hey! My name is Carly, and I’m a third-year student studying chemical engineering and getting a minor in chemistry! I grew up in McMinnville, Oregon, so I’m very familiar with Corvallis and the surrounding areas. Growing up so close really influenced me coming to Oregon State University as I always loved the campus and the community it held. I also knew that it was a strong engineering/STEM school, which is what I knew I wanted to study. I knew the Honors College would allow me to have a tight-knit community of other students with similar ambitions and goals as mine, as well as offer tons of opportunities to explore my major and interests outside of the classroom. My thesis is in the works right now and is titled, “Addressing the Pipeline and How to Repair It: Where STEM Gets Exclusive.” It’s going to include interviews of graduated individuals who were involved in DEI-focused clubs during their school career and how their experiences did or did not prepare them.

Outside of studying, I stay busy in clubs. I’m currently the VP of Events for the Engineering Student Council, the Treasurer for the Sigma Delta Omega sorority (Oregon State’s sorority focusing on a passion for science), as well as the academic learning assistant for West Hall! Coming to college can be super intimidating and anxiety-inducing, whether you’re an in-state, out-of-state or international student. We’re all here to help you, and we have a great group of folks who have a ton of insight into all that our campus has to offer. If you have any questions, specifically about Greek Life, College of Engineering, Honors College or Residential Education, feel free to reach out!
