When I was in elementary school, my parents bought me a toy doctor kit that every little kid had. Instead of using it on my friends or my parents, I immediately chased down our family german shepherd to try and listen to his heartbeat. Ever since then, everyone in my life knew I was going to be a veterinarian someday.
Over the course of my high school years, I volunteered 100 hours of my time to my local humane society, truly finding love for shelter medicine. I then spent my senior year as a veterinary assistant in a small animal hospital in my city. I had the incredible opportunity to shadow a veterinarian, assisting with procedures/surgeries, and getting a ton of exposure in the field itself. After owning and fostering a wild range of animals (dogs, cats, guinea pigs, mice, hamsters, rats, snakes, lizards, and frogs), I am planning on becoming an exotic veterinarian, or possibly even a wildlife veterinarian. I am so excited to be joining the pre-veterinary scholars and I'm looking forward to the opportunities for support, guidance, and experience it may provide!
