English, French and German
Hello! My name is Grace Knutsen (she/her/hers), and I am excited to serve as an Honors College Ambassador. I am a third-year student at Oregon State University majoring in History, French, and German, with a minor in Military History. I’m particularly interested in twentieth-century global conflicts, French colonialism and decolonization, and the 1918 influenza pandemic. In fact, my Honors thesis investigates a potential French genesis of the 1918 pandemic through an exploration of primary medical and military documents. After graduating, I plan to pursue a doctorate in history in order to become a university history professor.
I was born and raised in Oregon. I love my home state, so it was not a difficult decision to attend college in Oregon. However, the Honors College program was a primary reason that I chose to attend Oregon State University. I am so grateful for the ability to explore interdisciplinary topics, perform research, and build a community within the Honors College.
Outside of ambassadorship, I work as an Honors College Media Assistant, so you may see me on the Honors College Instagram page (@osuhonors)! I am also a member of Sigma Delta Omega, a science-interest sorority, as well as am a student committee member for the university’s Holocaust Memorial Week. I love classic rock music, so I also enjoy attending meetings with the Oregon State University Album Club. When I’m not in class or at work, you can find me spending time with my cats or volunteering at Heartland Humane Society, swimming at Dixon Recreation Center, reading a good book, playing piano, or studying in the Memorial Union with a cup of tea by my side.
If you have any questions about my experiences at Oregon State University, in the Honors College, in the College of Liberal Arts, in Greek Life, or in any other of my activities, please reach out to me. In addition, if you are a student living off-campus but still looking to engage in the Honors College community and university life in general, I would be happy to discuss my experience doing that with you. I am so excited to help you pursue your college journey
