Hello! My name is Jax Richards (He/Him/His), and I’m a third year student triple majoring in Economics, Public Policy and Political Science! As a first generation student, I focus my studies and professional development on reforming the child welfare and foster care systems. In fact, for my honors thesis, I’m working with OSU’s Director of the School of Public Policy and local school districts to analyze child abuse prevention policy.

I came to the Honors College because I value the personal connection, our community of diverse thinkers and it’s emphasis on cross-collaboration between disciplines! This has helped a lot throughout my time at OSU, especially participating in the OSU Legislative Scholars Program, and being the Lead Organizer for TEDxOregonStateU (Before COVID-19). Outside of academics, I’ve focused a great deal on student support, both from a personal and policy level. I self-started my own 501(c)(3) nonprofit to provide a platform for survivors of childhood maltreatment and was named by the Corvallis Advocate as one of Corvallis’ top 10 most impactful people in 2020. I’ve also worked as legislative staffer for a local state senator and, now serve as the Governor-appointed student trustee on the Oregon State University Board of Trustees. In my free time, I enjoy archery, chess, and watching nature documentaries with my emotional support turtle, Ginsburg.

Ultimately, I hope to see you at OSU and the Honors College and I encourage you to reach out to me with any inquires regarding the honors college or just my experiences as a student and I’ll do my best to help (I can also talk about my experiences with study abroad in the Honors college)!
