Project Description
I’m looking for undergraduate researchers interested in building on previous year's URSA Engage students' results. They began determining what the State of the Art (SOTA) is in engineering education research within the realm of LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent issues, but there is more to discover!

For students interested in just the LGBTQIA+ topic, this would include categorization of subtopics within LGBTQIA+ issues in engineering education (for example, trans student experiences, pronoun usage in engineering, LGBTQIA+ faculty trends within engineering, BIPOC LGBTQIA+ topics, etc.), trends regarding the research findings, location/demographic information on said SOTA, and what gaps are currently present in LGBTQIA+ engineering education research.

For students interested in just the neurodivergence, this would include categorization of subtopics within neurodivergent issues in engineering education (for example, how ADHD or ASD affects engineering students, trends in neurodivergent student populations, intersection of ADHD and ASD in engineering students, etc.), trends regarding the research findings, location/demographic information on said SOTA, and what gaps are currently present in neurodivergent engineering education research.

There is also opportunity to pursue the intersectionality of both communities for those interested in delving into all the above!

I give the students a lot of license to pursue what interests them as the project progresses, but to also mentor in such a way to ensure success and a final outcome they can be proud of. This research would then inform me on what future topics I could delve further into for potential grant opportunities and any efforts towards bettering engineering education both here at OSU and worldwide.
