Class of 2023 Graduate Feature – Sophia Taylor

Now that class of 2023 grad Sophia Taylor is almost done studying sociology, she’s ready to start practicing it. There’s one thing she knows for certain about her path after her June graduation: she wants to make a difference.

Sophia was immediately drawn to the sense of belonging she felt when she first visited Oregon State University. She chose to join the Honors College to “ingrain myself in the campus as much as possible.” She also wanted an opportunity to challenge herself through the honors thesis process.

Class of 2023 honors graduate Ian Replinger’s go-to fun fact is that he’s been in the two largest buildings in the world: the Boeing Everett factory in Washington and the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas. How did he get to spend time in these unique spaces? During Ian’s time at Oregon State University, he had four engineering internships: two with Boeing and two with Tesla.

The Oregon State University Art-Science Fellowship was created to push back against this misconception and help students discover and explore the distinctive intersection of the arts and sciences. Each undergraduate fellow receives financial support to explore creative projects informed by active field research.

Born and raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Shahinaz is majoring in animal science with options in pre-veterinary and behavioral sciences.

Student Spotlight – Lillian Waddick

According to the American College Health Association, nearly three quarters of university students reported moderate or severe psychological distress at some point during their academic year. These are the exact kinds of people that Lillian Waddick, a third-year honors student majoring in psychology with a business minor, came to Oregon State University to help. With a passion for people and a broad array of interests, Lillian – who hails from Portland, Oregon – has found her time at Oregon State to be a unique period of growth.
