Dear OSU Honors College Senior,

There are special commencement garments that signify your achievement as an Honors College graduate. If you are participating in the June 2024 commencement and you pre-order your regalia by December 28th, 2023 you will be able to pick up and pay for your order at the OSU Graduation Fair in April 2024. You can come directly to the Honors College Table and see Dewi, the HC Advising Coordinator, April 16th or April 17th from 10am- 4pm. Students unable to attend the OSU Graduation Fair will be able to pick up and pay for their Honors regalia order at the OSU Beaverstore anytime after April 17, 2024. Students who did not preorder can still pick up regalia but supplies maybe limited.

Regalia FAQs

Can I use my [sister's, brother's, friend's, etc.] old gown?

Yes and No. You may use a previously used black Josten's gown; however, be sure that if you plan on using the gown from previous years that you bring it with you the day of the graduation fair, as any gown not purchased from OSU this year needs to be approved by the registrar. It is uncommon for a gown in good condition used at a recent OSU graduation to be rejected, but its best to be safe. If your gown is not approved and the managing staff at commencement feel that your regalia is incorrect they can pull you from the commencement for incorrect wardrobe. It’s not something that happens normally, but we have seen the registrar rejected one or two gowns at the graduation fair over the years - usually when the reused gown is very faded or incorrect degree (masters vs undergrad).

Can I rent my regalia?

You cannot rent undergraduate regalia.

Why am I not wearing an orange and black tassel?

You won't be wearing an orange and black tassel at graduation. Each college has a specific color tassel to represent their college and Honors students will walk at the front of each college. You don't need to know your college's color, you just need to know what college you will be walking with. The classic orange and black tassel with 2024 are souvenir tassels. You can purchase them at anytime between the graduation fair and commencement from the bookstore. You don't need them for graduation, they are simply souvenirs.

Tam vs. Mortar Board Hat

You do not have to order the tam; however, the tam is a major signifier of your achievement and Honors College regalia.

Honor Cords

Honor cords are not unique to the HC, rather the cords signify academic distinction to any OSU student who have met a set criteria and GPA requirement. Graduates with academic distinction are entitled to wear an honor cord over their gown. Students must have at least 90 credits or 60 upper division credits at OSU, with a 3.5 or better GPA.

  • GPAs of 3.50 to 3.69 are Cum Laude and wear orange cords.
  • GPAs of 3.70 to 3.84 are Magna Cum Laude and wear gold cords.
  • GPAs of 3.85 and above are Summa Cum Laude and wear white cords.
