Q: What is your role in the Honors College?
I oversee the advising desk as well as the thesis submission process. Reach out if you have any questions around Stage 4, or if you have any general advising questions.
Q: What's one project or initiative you've worked on that you're especially proud of?
We've set up peer drop-in hours for all things thesis. Whether you would like help with identifying faculty to reach out to, or need help with the thesis proposal (among other things), our folks are here to help. I think it's a great resource that we haven't offered before, and is a great way for students, especially those that are completing Stage 2 independently, to get some help.
Q: What kind of questions can you answer from honors community members?
Generic Honors College Advising questions as well as all questions related to Stages 3 - 4 of the thesis.
Q: What's something you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love snuggling up in front of the fire with a good book and kittens, spending as much time outside as much as possible (bonus if I take a book with me) and introducing my kids to all the things I loved doing growing up. Most recently they're super into collecting and battling with Pokemon cards.
Q: What's a book, podcast or movie that's inspired you or made you think recently?
I read a lot of Fantasy and Science Fiction. It's nice to escape to another world considering the current political climate. In terms of books that have inspired me recently, I'd have to go with The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune.
Q: If you had the opportunity to work on an HC thesis today, what do you think the theme or title would be?
I wrote a dissertation for my own undergraduate degree that I would love to revisit. I was looking at how learning outside of the classroom for elementary aged kids can have an impact on their self-confidence and self-esteem.
Q: What's one of your favorite memories or moments from working in the Honors College?
Seeing the amazing research our Honors College students have been able to take part in as undergraduate students is amazing! Nothing beats listening to excited students explain their thesis topics to us.
Q: What's something you've learned from the HC community that's influenced you?
Everyday feels like a school day! And in a good way too! I learn so much from out students on a daily basis. From Herodotus to cultivating algae for biofuel. Subjects I would never have learned about if not for our students.
