Honors College Emergency Grant

The Honors College recognizes that this may be a challenging time financially for students and their families. We encourage students who have unexpected expenses to apply for a one-term Honors College Emergency Grant. Only the following expenses are eligible for grant support :

  • Housing and/or meals

  • Course materials or equipment for class

  • Vehicle repair costs to get to classes

  • Travel home for a death in the family or other family emergency

  • Healthcare and/or mental healthcare costs

  • Unexpected childcare costs

Honors College differential tuition is not an eligible emergency expense. Applications must clearly communicate the unexpected nature of this emergency. Determinations will be made on a rolling basis and will consider need, the likelihood of earning the Honors Baccalaureate and answers to the application questions. Approved grants will be for up to $500 and are for one-term only. Grants will not be renewed for additional terms, but students can reapply. Typically, students can only receive two HC Emergency Grants during their time in the Honors College. Students who are seeking support for thesis research, conference travel, participation in an Honors College international opportunity or payment of non-tuition honors course fees should apply for an Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship through ScholarDollars.

Only students currently enrolled in the Honors College are eligible for HC Emergency Grant, and students must be taking courses in the term of the grant. If approved, emergency financial assistance will be refunded directly to you, either by direct deposit or by mailed check. Receipt of a second grant will require meeting with an advisor from the OSU Center for Advancing Financial Education (CAFE).
