The SLUG in Learning Innovation Center 340 is the Honors College student learning space on the Corvallis campus. "SLUG" stands for Students Learning UnderGround and dates back to the Honors College's early days in Strand Agricultural Hall, when the student learning space was in the basement. Honors College alum (and current Board of Regents member) Adam Bean '00 proposed the name, and it has stuck ever since - even after the move to decidedly above ground accommodations on the third floor of the LInC.
Amenities in the SLUG include computers, free printing, study and lounge spaces, a private study room, writable surfaces, a plug-in display for group work and a small kitchen area with a refrigerator, microwave, sink and snacks. During COVID-19 conditions, capacity is limited to 40, computer availability is limited and students are expected to adhere to OSU safety policies. In addition, all Honors College students must agree with the Honors College Community Compact and follow all posted rules and instructions.
Special note - Due to ongoing issues with the ID card readers, the numerical code emailed to students at the beginning of the term will continue to provide after hours access to the LInC during SLUG open hours until further notice.
The SLUG is open during fall, winter and spring terms from the first day of classes through finals week:
Currently, the SLUG is open beyond the hours of the Learning Innovation Center, which are 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. After-hours access is restricted to Honors College students and will require use of an OSU ID card beginning 10/18/20. Through 10/16/20, access requires use of a code, input on the keypad by the north doors. This code was emailed to all Corvallis campus honors students. Please note that the keypad scrambles after each use so look at it carefully when entering the code. HC students working in the LInC outside of building hours are restricted to the SLUG, Honors College classrooms and adjoining study spaces. When entering and exiting after hours, be sure external doors close and latch. Violation of rules, bringing in non-honors students after hours, or sharing the passcode may result in suspension of after-hours privileges for the entire HC community.
Students accessing the SLUG are required to clean up after themselves according to posted instructions using provided supplies.
During fall term, Honors College classroom spaces in the LInC - rooms 343, 345, 350 and 360 - are available for student use. Students who would like to use classrooms must check-in and check-out in the SLUG. Please do not use these spaces without checking in. Classrooms can also be reserved in advance in the SLUG.
If you are interested in potentially working as a student consultant in the Student Learning Center, check the OSU employment job portal. All job openings are posted in the Monday Message as they become available.
