Two cities. Two colloquia.

June 20 - July 8, 2023

The 2023 Honors College France Experience will provide students with opportunities to visit the front lines of France's campaign to meet the specific goals of the COP21 and, more generally, how French leaders, researchers and citizens are engaging in national and international efforts to confront climate change. Students will be immersed in France's food system, its history and its daily functions while stepping outside of the traditional learning format with visits to museums, historic sites and tourist destinations.

Beginning in Lyon and ending in Paris, this 16-day program will allow students to earn four colloquium credits via two courses: Exploring France's Responses to Climate Change  From COP21 to Today and Beyond and Experiencing French Food Culture From Commodities to Cafes. These two colloquia, though created as separate courses, are highly complementary, with many of the program activities integrating themes from both courses. For example, students will have the opportunity to visit the Champagne region where they will gain insight into the traditional practices and systems of quality control used to produce champagne while simultaneously getting an up-close look at how climate change is threatening these century-old production practices.
